April Flying week, now onto MayFest!

Post lockdown Cairngorm Gliding Club (CGC) was let loose! Paul Myers kindly organised the week and towed everyone into the air, with a few other tug pilots getting their hours inbetween. It was a busy week with lots of private flights! It only rained on one day - must be a record. Andy Farr provided the following stats, "From Monday 19th - Friday 23rd we flew every day except Tuesday. We had 33 flights totaling 60hrs 08mins."

Whilst building up experience towards his 50 km and 5 hours (for silver badge), Steward Hills pushed out East to capture a picture of the still-frozen Loch Coire An Lochain, it is the closest he has been to Braeriach!

There was one evening where Saz Reed took off at 5 pm and did not land until 730 pm. The thermals were going strong and still averaging 4kts into the evening. At one point 187 was the only glider still flying in Scotland and maybe even the UK.

Most days were very hot. Nick managed a few tasks in his two-seater Ash, taking up club members when they showed up but didn't have anything else to fly. He set a few tasks in a loop out toward Aboyne and then back around.
Throughout the week there were also a few declared and undeclared tasks done and put onto the BGA ladder!
The birds were showing where the thermals were throughout the week!
The other great thing to see was that after not flying for 7 years or so, CCA the K6 has flown about 11 hours in the last 10 days. Stewart remarked, "What a dream it is to fly. Great to see another wooden glider saved from rotting away in a trailer."

A fantastic week was had by all with only a few minor damages to wings from tressels and a few bumpy landings. Annual's also continued throughout the week. Now CGC gets ready for the renowned Mayfest and with further easing of lockdown it means more can join in and also get some training flights in! Here are the details for MayFest!
